I think that if Capcom did stick with Panta Rhei it would have ended up way more like Luminous Engine than RE Engine: Ahead of its time at first, but unable to keep up with current gen because of how difficult it is to optimize. As others have said, development of Deep Down was clearly as massive struggle for Capcom and by all accounts there likely wasn't much to the game beyond the very limited TGS demo when it was canceled. ![]() Being able to push out amazing graphics doesn't mean much if the game is running at 10fps or it runs well but crashes every 10 seconds. I can't imagine Panta Rhei becoming "the superior engine" because it clearly could not be optimized and it wasn't versatile. I know it's not perfect but I think Capcom's output with RE Engine has been impressive overall. Do people have a grudge against RE Engine now or something? I think most games on it have looked great, it's well optimized (MH Rise running at a stable 30fps on the Switch is seriously impressive), and it's extremely versatile. ![]()
